43RD CADC DAY CELEBRATED

Kamalanagar, 29 April:Chakma Autonomous District Council completed 42 years of existence today since it was created in the year 1972 on 29th April. It was formed under the 6th Schedule to the Constitution of India by trifurcating the then Pwi-Lakher Regional Council into Lai Autonomous District Council, Mara Autonomous District Council and Chakma Autonomous District Council. The purpose of creating the Council has been really served, conferring the minority communities safeguard to protect, preserve and promote their cultural identity.

Buddha Lila Chakma Sworn in as the Second New CEM of 9th CADC

Dangu Buddha Lila ChakmaKamalanagar, January 22: Dangu Buddha Lila Chakma was sworn-in today as the new Chief Executive Member of Chakma Autonomous District Council. The wait is finally over. CADC has been without a Chief since the outgoing CEM Dangu Dr. Buddha Dhan Chakma had to resign on 7th January after he got elected as MLA, Mizoram in the last General Assembly Election held in November last year.

Baneswar Chakma Passes Away at 84

Kamalanagar, January 11: Dangu Baneswar Chakma, a veteran Chakma leader passed away yesterday at the age of 84 due to old age who has been lying in sick bed for quite a long time after he had a fall last year. He has spent the later part of his life in Nalbonya, a village near Kamalanagar, headquarter of CADC. He is survived by a son and a daughter.

Dr. B.D. Chakma, CEM, CADC Elected as MLA

Kamalanagar, 16 December: Dangu Dr. B.D. Chakma, the incumbent CEM, CADC who has contested in the Mizoram Assembly Election 2013 from 36-Tuichawng Assembly Constituency was elected defeating his rival Dangu Rasik Mohan Chakma by a margin of more than 7,000 votes.

67th Independence Day Celebrated in CADC

Kamalanagar, August 15: CADC celebrated India’s 67th Independence Day with great colour and pomp. Hon’ble Parliamentary Secretary Pu H Zothangliana graced the occasion as its chief guest.

The occasion witnessed the routine March Past represented by contingents from paramilitary force and children of different schools.

There was a great display of colourful cultural items representing the two communities, the Chakmas and the Mizos, who have been living together here for centuries. True indeed, this reflects India’s character of unity in diversity.

Earlier, in the morning at 7.00 am the Hon’ble Chief Executive Member Dr. Buddha Dhan Chakma unfurled the National Flag in front of the Secretariat of Chakma Autonomous District Council. He recalled all the freedom fighters with tribute who have sacrificed their life for our today. He also paid his tribute to all those Chakma leaders who have been instrumental in the creation of the only piece of Chakma Land, Chakma Autonomous District Council, where they are privileged with political-determination.

Dr. B.D. Chakma in his speech reminded the people of CADC of India’s 2020 Vision target to declare itself as a developed nation and invited them to share this dream to enable ourselves worthy of staying on this planet. To make ourselves worthy of direct funding, for which the three Autonomous Councils have been strongly pursuing for long, he said, “it is important we change our attitude towards our work culture and start giving our best”. While recalling the inauguration of Borapansury Primary Health Centre early this year, he expressed his sadness about not being able to find Doctors to run the Hospital, which he said reflects the lack of human resources the society suffers from and pledged to introduce science stream at Kamalanagar Govt. Higher Secondary School by next year with the help of the State Govt. In an attempt to encourage meritorious students, he unveiled a plan to hold Merit Scholarship Exam for Class-IV & VIII standard students and successful candidates shall be entitled to scholarship for Cl-V, VI, VII and Cl-IX, X respectively.

He expressed hope that ongoing works and upcoming works under various projects and schemes such as Modernization of Kamalanagar Town, Completion of CADC Cultural Hall Cum Museum, construction of New Secretariat Building, Legislative Building, Kamalanagar College and blacktopping of town area roads leading to New secretariat Complex and Helipad shall surely give a facelift to Kamalanagar Town.

42nd CADC Day Celebrated

Kamalanagar, April 29:The 42nd CADC Day was celebrated today ceremonially. The morning of the Day was started with the hoisting of the CADC flag by the new Chief Executive Member, CADC Dr. Buddha Dhan Chakma to the tune of the CADC anthem.

On the occasion the patriots like Shri Kristo Mohan Chakma and Shri Atul Chandra Chakma were recalled and tributes were showered upon them.

The new CEM expressed his hope for cooperation from every section of the society to take CADC on the path of growth. In his address to the public he announced the induction of four members into his Executive Committee for which, he told, recommendation were sent to His Excellency, the Governor of Mizoram. The four to be Executive Members are Shri Susen Chakma, Shri Doyal Chandra Chakma, Shri Mohan chakma and Shri Buddha Lila Chakma. He also told that the two remaining Executive Members shall very soon be inducted.

Kamalanagar, April 26:Dr. Buddha Dhan Chakma was sworn in today as the new Chief Executive Member of the 9th Chakma Autonomous District Council in a ceremony held in the CADC cultural hall. The Deputy Commissioner, Lawngtlai District Pu B. Lalhmingthanga arrived this morning to administer the oath of secrecy.

The new CEM in his address to the public promised to deliver on the high expectation the people have with his leadership being one of the youngest who is a physician turned politician. He said it shall be his endevour to maintain peace and harmony and promote brotherhood between the different tribes dwelling this land. He urged one and all to come forward to take part in this success story.

CADC recently had its 9th General Election held where the Indian National Congress won 17 sits while the remaining three by the Mizo National Front. This will be the second successive Congress led Government at CADC.

Treasury Office Inaugurated at Kamalanagar

Kamalanagar, February 19: The long felt need of a Treasury at Kamalanagar, the headquarter of Chakma Autonomous District has finally been fulfilled with the inauguration of the Treasury Office here, by the Hon’ble Minister of Finance, Pu H. Liansailova. Today’s event marked the culmination of an effort taken up by successive Governments of CADC for long three decades.

The Hon’ble Minister graced the occasion as its Chief Guest. While speaking on the occasion he made it categorically clear that the Treasury shall function with the status of a District Treasury with independent charges. So far, all Government transactions were executed through the District Treasury at Lawngtlai, some 150 KM from here, which involves a lot of resources and time. Security concern has been one of the prime reasons for taking this long for the Office to get established, Kamalanagar being near the international boundary. The Hon’ble Minister in his speech said that for a nod from the Reserve Bank of India he and Pu Lalthan Hawla, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Mizoram had to approach Mr. P. Chidambaram, Finance Minister, Government of India for treating the case on special consideration.

Pu F. Vanlalruata, Secretary, Finance Department accompanying the Hon’ble Minister, while presenting his technical introductory report told the audience that not only the Chakma Council but all the State Departments offices within the Council shall benefit from the services of the Treasury. From his report it was learnt that the Office shall be run by one Treasury Officer, one Treasury Accountant, three Assistant Treasury Accountant, one LDC and two Grade Fourth staff.

Earlier, in October 2012, the then Finance Secretary to Government of Mizoram Pu Vanlalnghaka was here in connection with the setting up of the Treasury. He left assuring the authorities of CADC with a positive note and finally promise was delivered.
